Abna’ Al Mustaheel (Sons of the Impossible) is a short feature film that sheds light on the lives of people of determination, depicting real incidents that feature a boy with down-syndrome and an autistic girl. The film looks closely at the negative way that society perceives the differently abled through two parallel stories in a community that fails to understand them, however they are given hope and assistance and their world changes for the better.

The script of the film was written by Hossam Hamoud, who is also the director. It features Salwa Jameel, Marawan Ghariwati, Mohamed Hassan Al Beik, nour Sukari and Sawsan Ismail. Cinematography and Editing is by Ahmed Naema and the assistant director is Hassan Tahhan. According to its director, the filming took place in a working-class neighborhood in Aleppo using very simple and uncomplicated means and techniques, however its humane subject matter has transformed the story into a tale of empathy and solidarity.

At the end of the screening, the hall witnessed an open discussion about the film, where the audience asked the director of the film about the accompanying music, the length of the film and the lighting, among other questions, to which Houssam Hamoud positively responded. Next, a nurse who helps people of determination gave a touching testimonial and emphasized that the film has succeeded in directly delivering its message.

As the event concluded, Executive Director of the Sultan Bin Ali Al Owais Cultural Foundation, Ibrahim Al Hashemi, thanked director Housam Hammou and presented him with a certificate of appreciation, stressing that Al Owais Film Club presents exceptional opportunities to gifted filmmakers and supports creative independent initiatives.

Moreover, it was also screened in various international festivals without being part of the official competition.

It is worth mentioning that ‘Al Owais Film Club’, which was launched in October, 2021, is an initiative that has been added to the Foundation’s repertoire of cultural projects, which aims at screening notable and award-winning local, Arab and international films that are often not seen by the public, and hosting discussions about them in the aim of cultivating visual literacy in the community. Al Owais film club will also screen independent films that showcase talents in the fields of script-writing, cinematography or criticism.
