EXHIBITION BY PLASTIC ARTIST ABDEL GHAFFAR SHEDID OPENS AT AL OWAIS CULTURAL FOUNDATION

Activities of the Recollective exhibition by Egyptian plastic artist Dr. Abdel Ghaffar Shedid have kicked off at the Exhibition Hall of the Sultan Bin Ali Al Owais Cultural Foundation in Dubai. The opening ceremony was attended by Dr. Mohammed Abdullah Al Mutawa, Secretary General of Al Owais Cultural Foundation and a large audience of art enthusiasts. The audience toured the exhibition, which showcased tens of artworks by the veteran Egyptian artist who spent a great deal of his life in Germany.

The exhibition includes a collection of the international artist’s most notable paintings, which embody his unique artistic style throughout a career of 60 years. Moreover, the exhibited artworks reflect Dr. Shedid’s vision of the value of creativity and the distinctiveness of the cultural identity of the Egyptian and Arab environments.

Dr. Abdel Ghaffar Shedid, born in Qalyubia Governorate, Egypt, is one of the most renowned Arab plastic artists. His name is enlisted in the Artists Encyclopedia of Bavaria, Germany and the Encyclopedia of Famous Egyptian Personalities.

After taking a tour of the exhibition, Dr. Mohammed Abdullah Al Mutawa presented the veteran artist with a commemorative shield and a certificate of appreciation.

It is worth mentioning that artist Abdel Ghaffar Shedid obtained his Bachelor’s degree from the Faculty of Fine Arts in 1962. He pursued his higher studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich from 1967-1973, obtaining a postgraduate diploma in 1973 and later on a Master’s degree in Art History and Egyptology from Ludwig Maximillian University in Munich in 1983 before obtaining his Ph.D. in General Art History, Egyptology and Greco-Roman Art from the same university in 1985. The veteran artist is a member of many international plastic arts syndicates and associations.

Career wise, Dr. Shedid was a Professor of Ancient Egyptian Art Hisotry at Munich University, Germany (1986) and held a solo exhibition at Ikhnatun Hall in the Zamalek Arts Complex, Cairo (1990). Moreover, he participated in Alexandria Biennale (1962), Madrid Biennale (1970) and founded the Ancient Civilizations Arts Museum in Ebhoven, Germany.

Dr. Shedid has authored a number of publications in German including: “Analyzing Ancient Egyptian Art” and “Art in the Tombs of Bani Hassan in Middle Kingdom of Egypt”. He also won the award of the International Art Exhibition in Munich (The Role of Folklore)

The Exhibition will run until Thursday, March 11, 2016 at the Exhibition Hall of Al Owais Cultural Foundation.
