Cultural Ambassadorship for ALECSO screens Emirati film ‘100 Cans’ at Soho House West Hollywood

The Cultural Ambassadorship for the Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organisation (ALECSO) recently held a private screening of the Emirati documentary “100 Cans” produced by Anasy Media and directed by Mazen Al-Khayrat at the Soho House West Hollywood, United States.This is the first cultural event organised in the US and outside of the Arab world.

The film received an award at the International Independent Film Awards in the US. It was nominated at the Rome Prisma Film Awards in Italy and officially selected at the Flickers’ Rhode Island International Festival, the North Carolina Film Festival, the Stockholm City Film Festival, and the Other Venice Film Festival.

The talk focused on the power of art and creativity, and the agency of women, artists, and children of Yemen. In the presence of Hazza Alkaabi, Consul General of the UAE in Los Angeles, Yasmine Nasser Diaz, a Los Angeles-based Yemeni artist shared her story about growing up in Chicago as part of the Yemeni diaspora and working as an artist in Los Angeles.She highlighted her recent exhibitions in Los Angeles’ Glendale Library the Sound of Your Voice is Home, and soft powers, which took place at the Arab American National Museum, Dearborn, Michigan.The film “100 Cans” is about landmines and their impact on lives.
