The Sultan Bin Ali Al Owais Cultural Foundation will host a major book-signing event on May 20 to mark Emirati Writer’s Day, which falls annually on May 26, celebrating recently published Emirati books (2025 and 2026) and the country’s literary movement.
The event will feature 55 Emirati writers, in line with the UAE’s 55th National Day celebrations, bringing together authors from different generations and literary backgrounds in an evening dedicated to celebrating the UAE’s literary movement. The event will showcase books published in 2025 and 2026 and aims to honour writers who have enriched the UAE’s cultural scene and strengthened the presence of Emirati identity in literary forums at home and abroad.
Emirati Writer’s Day is a national cultural occasion launched at the initiative of His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, to recognise Emirati authors and their contribution to enhancing national identity and cultural life.
The occasion coincides with the anniversary of the establishment of the Emirates Writers Union and seeks to highlight the role of writers in strengthening national identity and enriching the cultural landscape. It also aims to recognise Emirati authors and highlight their contributions to serving their country and community, as well as passing historical and cultural values on to future generations.
The Sultan Bin Ali Al Owais Cultural Foundation has marked the occasion annually in recent years, transforming its halls into a gathering space where writers from different generations exchange ideas and experiences that enrich the UAE’s intellectual and cultural landscape.
