Literary Studies and Criticism

  • Born in 1935 in Tlemcen, Algeria.
  • Joined the College of Arts and Humanities, Rabat-Morocco in 1960.
  • Joined the Faculty of Law and Political Science and Rabat Social Sciences Institute in 1960.
  • Graduated from the Higher Institute for Teacher Education, Rabat in 1963.
  • In 1970, he was awarded a Ph.D. in the Arts from the University of Algeria for a thesis titled, “Al Maqamat Genre in Arab Literature”.
  • In 1983, he obtained a Ph.D. in the Arts from Sorbonne University, Paris.

  • 1956 Appointed as Primary School Teacher in Ahfir, Morocco.
  • 1963 Appointed as Educational Consultant in Oran.
  • 1963 Appointed as Arabic Teacher at Ibn Badis Secondary School in Oran.
  • 1970 Appointed as a teacher of Arabic at Oran University.
  • 1971 Appointed as Head of the Arabic Language and Literature Department at Oran University.
  • 1974 Appointed as Director of the Institute for Arabic Language and Literature, Oran University.
  • 1975 Voted as Chairman of the Algerian Writers Union in the western provinces.
  • 1980-1983 Appointed as Vice Dean of Oran University.
  • 1981 Voted as Board Member of the Algerian Writers’ Union.
  • 1983-1986 Appointed as Director of the Department of Culture and Information in Oran.
  • 1987 Received a Certificate of Appreciation from the Algerian President.
  • 1984-1989 Voted as national Secretary-General of Algerian Writers’ Union.
  • 1986 Promoted to Chair of Arabic at Oran University.
  • 1988 Appointed as Member of the Advisory Board of Kitabat Mu’asira Magazine, Beirut.
  • 1989 Appointed as Head of Arabic Language and Literature Research Unit at Oran University.
  • 1986 Appointed as Chairman of Scientific Council at the Institute of Arabic and Literature, Oran University.
  • 1993 Appointed as Member of the Advisory Board of Aswat magazine, Sanaa- Yemen.
  • 1992 Editor-in-Chief of Al Hadatha magazine, released by the Institute of Arabic Language and Literature, Oran University.
  • 1998 Founded Dirasat Jaz’iriya (Algerian Studies) magazine, released by the Institute of Arabic Language and Literature, Oran University.
  • 1998-2001 Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Al Lugha Al Arabiya (The Arabic Language) magazine, released by the Supreme Council of Arabic Language.
  • 1997-2000 Appointed as Member of the Advisory Board of the Foundation of Abdulaziz Saud Al-Babtain’s Prize for Poetic Creativity
  • 1998 Appointed as Member of the Higher Islamic Council, the Presidency of the Algerian Republic.
  • 1998-2001 Appointed as Chairman of the Supreme Council of Arabic Language.
  • 1999 Appointed as Member of the Arab Cultural Center, Beirut.
  • Represented the Algerian Writers’ Union at many Arab and International Conferences.
  • His name was enlisted in Larousse encyclopedia and other Arab and international encyclopedias as a critic.
