• He was born in 1940 in Basra, Iraq.
  • He studied in Iraq before completing his studies at the Higher Institute for Theatre Arts in Kuwait, from which he graduated in 1979.
  • Hepublished his first collection of short stories in the Kuwaiti magazine, “Al Ra’ed” before compiling them in a book, titled “Al Buq’a Al Dakina” (The Dark Patch), which was published in 1965 by Al Nahdha Bookshop, Baghdad.
  • His first novel “Kanat Al Samaa’ Zarqaa'”(The Sky was Blue) was published in 1970 by Al Awda Publishing House in Beirut, with an introduction by Egyptian poet Salah Abdel Sabour.
  • A number of novels were to follow including: “Al Mustanq’at Al Daw’iyya”(The Light Swamps), “Al Habl” (The Rope) and “Al Difaf Al Ukhra” (The Other Shores), which together represent the author’s quartet.
  • His novel “Malaf Al Hadetha 67” (File of Case 67), which sheds light on aspects of a Palestinian’s life in Kuwait, was adapted into a play and performed by the Tunisian National Theatre Troupe. The plat won the Carthage Festival Award.
  • His novel “Chiyah”, which revolves around the Lebanese Civil War, was also adapted into a play and staged in Baghdad.
  • He also authored a number of other novels including “Al Neelu Yajri Shamalan: Al Bidayat”(The Nile Flows North: The Beginnings); ” Al Neelu Yajri Shamalan:Al Nawateer) (The Nile Flows North:The Gatekeepers), and “Al Neel Al Ta’m wal Ra’iha” (The Nile, its Taste and Smell) for which he was awarded the State of Kuwait Merit Award in 1989. His critical work “Shi’r fil Hawa’ Al Talq” (Poetry in Open Air) also won the State Merit Award in Literary Criticism in 2002.
  • His plays include “Al Nas” (The Text), which was staged in Bahrain by Al Jazeera Theatre Group, and “Al Ard Lam Yabda'” (The Show Did Not Start), which was directed by Dr. Awni Kromi and staged in Bahrain under the supervision of the Bahraini Supreme Council for Culture in 2004.
