Education and Career :

  • Diploma in Education, Dubai (1973).
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Archeology, University of Baghdad (1977).
  • Appointed as Head of the Libraries Department at the Ministry of Information and Culture on 15/12/1977.
  • Appointed as Deputy Director of the Media and Culture Bureau in Sharjah on 31/10/1978, and later as Director of the Media and Culture Bureau in Ajman on 11/06/1980. Became Head of the Archaeological Department in Dubai on 6/10/1980.
  • On 21/3/1982, he was seconded to the Emiri court in Sharjah by decree of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, where he was responsible for preserving the archeological and heritage sites in the emirate.
  • Worked as Director of the Archeology and Museums Authority (7/4/1982 – 7/1/1996).
  • Approved as an Expert in the field of Archaeology and Heritage by the Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO) on 13/12/1995.
  • Member of the Permanent Committee for Archaeology and Museums, the Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO).
  • Took part in the Iraqi Archaeological Expedition in Al Qusais site, Dubai (1973-1974).
  • Was head of the excavation team at Al Thaqiba site, Sharjah (1978).
  • Board Member of the History and Archaeology Centre, the United Arab Emirates University 12/12/1989.
  • Board Member of Emirates Writers’ Union (1987-2006).
  • Member of the Union of Arab Historians 10/5/1986.
  • Member of International Council of Museums (ICOM) 1979.
  • Representative of the UAE in the Treaty for the Preservation and Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage, UNESCO (until 2005).
  • Member of Who’s Who Historical Society, United States, 26/10/2000.
  • General Supervisor and Editor in Chief of Dirasat journal, issued by Emirates Writers’ Union (2001-2010).
  • Member of the Board of Trustees and General Secretariat of the Sultan Bin Ali Al Owais Cultural Foundation (since 26/12/1996 to date).

Awards : 

  • First Prize in Al Owais Award for Studies and Scientific Innovation for his study on “The Restoration of Souq Al Arsah- Sharjah” (1992).
  • Appreciation Award (Category of Archaeology) from the General Secretariat of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf (GCC) 1/5/2007.
  • Al Owais Innovation Award (26th session, 2019), the Cultural and Scientific Association in Dubai, for “Best Research in the Humanities” for his study titled, Al Qala’ed wal Tama’im wal Ta’aweeth Al Athariyyah Al Muktashafah fi Dawlat Al Imarat khilal Fatrat Al Alf Al Thani Qabl Al Milad, Fatrat Wadi Suq (“Ancient Necklaces, Amulets and Charms Discovered in the United Arab Emirates during the Second Millennium B.C. -The Wadi Suq Period”). A book about this research was published in 2019.

  • Authored more than 110 studies and researches in the fields of archaeology, heritage and museums.
  • Wrote four TV documentaries about archaeology and heritage in the UAE for Sharjah TV, and received an award for one of these documentaries from the National Television Festival, Dubai (1995).
