The annual event is one of the largest of its kind dedicated to international children\u2019s literature<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Sharjah will be the guest of honour at the 2022 Bologna Children\u2019s Book Fair.<\/span><\/p>\n

Running from\u00a0March 21 to\u00a0March 24 in the northern Italian city, the event is one of the largest\u00a0such events dedicated to international children\u2019s literature.<\/span><\/p>\n

In addition to a large pavilion run by the Sharjah Book Authority (SBA), a delegation of 10 Emirati children\u2019s and young adult fiction authors and illustrators will appear at the festival for book signings and panel discussions.<\/span><\/p>\n

Some of those making the trip include authors\u00a0Noura Al Noman and\u00a0Dubai Abulhoul<\/a>, illustrator Marwa Obeid and academic Reem Al Gurg.<\/span><\/p>\n

Italian-translated books by Emirati authors will be launched at the fair, in addition to a range of workshops and networking sessions featuring UAE and international publishers.<\/span><\/p>\n

According to SBA chairman Ahmed Al Ameri, Sharjah\u2019s standing as guest of honour is a testament to the emirate\u2019s investment in children’s literature.<\/span><\/p>\n

He cites the success of publishing house Kalimat Group, launched in 2007 and run by International Publishers Association president Bodour Al Qasimi, for raising standards and stimulating demand for the genre across the region.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThere has been an impressive growth in this sector as several new publishing houses for children\u2019s books have opened across the region,\u201d he said.<\/span><\/p>\n

Book fairs back on track<\/span><\/h2>\n

The news comes as more international and regional book fairs return with in-person activities.<\/span><\/p>\n

The world’s biggest book fair, Germany\u2019s\u00a0Frankfurter Buchmesse, announced its return from Wednesday, October 20 to Sunday, October 24. While\u00a0it ran a\u00a0digital-only programme<\/a>\u00a0in 2020, this year’s fair will feature a hybrid blend of online and physical events at the Frankfurt\u00a0Trade Fair Grounds.<\/span><\/p>\n

This month, the\u00a0Cairo International Book Fair<\/a>\u00a0will take place from Wednesday, June 30 to Thursday, July 15 at the Egypt International Exhibition Centre.<\/span><\/p>\n

Jordan\u2019s\u00a0Amman International Book Fair<\/a>\u00a0is also back on this year\u2019s calendar.<\/span><\/p>\n

The annual event, which\u00a0cancelled its 2020 programme because of the pandemic, will run from Wednesday, September 22 to Saturday, October 2 within the halls of Amman International Motor Show.<\/span><\/p>\n

Meanwhile, in March, Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Culture Prince Badr bin Abdullah bin Farhan announced on Twitter that the Riyadh International Book Fair will take place from Friday, October 1 to Sunday, October 10.<\/span><\/p>\n

Both the\u00a0Abu Dhabi<\/a>\u00a0and the\u00a0Sharjah<\/a>\u00a0book fairs ran safe and successful events in May this year and last November, respectively.<\/span><\/p>\n
