In the presence of Sheikh Sultan Bin Ahmed Al Qasimi, Chairman of the Sharjah Media Council (SMC), and Sheikha Bodour Bint Sultan Al Qasimi, Vice-president of the International Publishers Association (IPA), and Founder and Chairperson of Kalimat Foundation for Children\u2019s Empowerment (KF), the foundation has donated 500 Arabic books to five schools across Jordan provided by Sharjah Media Council (SMC).<\/p>\n
KF also distributed 200 books to two schools in the capital Amman and the Dead Sea region, which brings the total tally of distributed books to 700. The titles were selected to suit the needs of students based on their age and their educational levels.<\/p>\n
The books distribution is part of the \u2018Pledge a Library\u2019 initiative that aims to provide books to children and public and school libraries in underprivileged communities worldwide.<\/p>\n
The visit to Al Sawaed School for Orphans \u2014 Al Baqaa Refugee Camp, and Swaima Mixed School \u2014 Dead Sea, was attended by HE Hassan Yacoub Al Mansouri, Secretary General, Sharjah Media Council; Dr. Khalaf Al Hashoush, Director of Education in Al Shunna District,\u00a0 Jordan; Aidy Arginal, Director of International Relief and Development Organisation in Jordan; Siraj Al Hamoud, Camp Manager at the International Relief and Development Organisation in Jordan, and Amna Al Mazmi, Manager of Kalimat Foundation for Children\u2019s Empowerment.<\/p>\n
Sheikh Sultan emphasised that the cultural efforts undertaken by Sharjah in neighboring countries are in line with the vision of His Highness Dr Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, to provide sources of knowledge to all members of the community, especially the young generations trapped in conflicts and hard living conditions with minimal or no access to books.<\/p>\n
\u201cBooks are the ultimate source of knowledge, wisdom, and a source of creativity. It is the bridge that connects cultures; a place where civilisations meet. This initiative is a reflection of Kalimat Foundation\u2019s and Sharjah\u2019s continuous efforts to do its humanitarian duty to help children and youth to create a bright future for themselves and their communities,\u201d said Sheikh Sultan Bin Ahmed. For her part, Sheikha Bodour lauded the support of Sharjah Media Council and other bodies from the private and public sectors to the \u2018Pledge a Library\u2019 initiative.<\/p>\n
She said: \u201cDisplaced Arab families, especially children, are subject to harsh living conditions and insecurity they don\u2019t deserve. The lack of access to educational and other knowledge-building resources is a huge concern.<\/p>\n
\u201cTo Sharjah, these are considered the corner stone of human development \u2013 we must cultivate a future generation aware of their culture and the issues that concern us. For that reason, KF\u2019s programmes and initiatives have been geared towards providing them with books that will serve a guiding light and help cement their present and future.\u201d<\/p>\n
The beneficiary schools from \u2018Pledge a Library\u2019 initiative included Maria Coptic School \u2013 Amman, Um Zwaitienyeh School \u2013 Amman, Al Sawaed School for Orphans \u2014 Al Baqaa Refugee Camp, and Swaima Mixed School \u2014 Dead Sea, Al-Shuna Al Janubeyeh\u00a0 Mixed Elementary School \u2013 Dead Sea, Al Khansaa Mixed Elementary School \u2013 Dead Sea, and Hai Al Sarahdeh Mixed Elementary School \u2013 Dead Sea.<\/p>\n
KF launched the \u2018Pledge a Library\u2019 initiative during its participation in the 36th edition of the Sharjah International Book Fair 2017. It has received support by several prominent government and private organisations in Sharjah, such as the Sharjah Media Council, Sharjah Book Authority, Sharjah Islamic Bank, Sharjah Ladies Club, Knowledge without Borders, the \u20181001 Titles\u2019 initiative, the UAE Board on Books for Young People, and other establishments and personalities.<\/p>\n
Last month in keeping with its dedication to making learning and knowledge consumption more suitable and accessible to visually impaired children, Kalimat Foundation for Children\u2019s Empowerment (KF)\u2019s ARA initiative has presented a collection of 1,100 Arabic language learning materials to the visually impaired students at Al Noor school, Kuwait.<\/p>\n
In doing so, the KF subsidiary has reached another milestone in furthering its commitment to removing barriers to learning for children with special abilities.<\/p>\n
The collection comprises 100 audiobooks, 500 large-print and 500 braille books. Through these, KF seeks to facilitate the students\u2019 journey of learning and improve their access to more quality Arabic language content.<\/p>\n
