The Dubai Festival for Youth Theatre concluded its 15th edition on Monday, October 28, 2024, at the Cultural and Scientific Association, wrapping up a series of performances and activities.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The closing ceremony drew a large audience and was attended by Dr. Saeed Mubarak bin Kharbash, Executive Director of the Arts and Literature Sector at Dubai Culture.<\/span><\/p>\n

The jury, headed by Samira Ahmed, and including Dr. Khaled Al Bannai, and artist and director Faisal Abdullah Al Darmaki, announced the winners of theatrical performances that competed for the festival\u2019s awards.<\/span><\/p>\n

The\u00a0Best Integrated Theatrical Performance\u00a0award went to \u201cNeighbours of the Moon\u201d<\/em><\/strong>, performed by the Dubai National Theatre Troupe, which claimed the lion\u2019s share of awards. The play earned five honours, including Best Scenography and Best Direction, awarded to Abdullah Al Mehairi.\u00a0Neighbours of the Moon<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0also won Best Music Effect for Abdulaziz Al Khamis and\u00a0Best Young Actress<\/em>\u00a0for Khawla Abdul Salam.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Innovation Award in Performing Art was awarded to \u201cPlease Do Not Call<\/em><\/strong>\u201d performed\u00a0by\u00a0Al Ain Theatre Group, with artist Abdullah Khalil winning Best Young Actor for his role in the same show. The Best Promising Talent Award went to Nawal Mohammed for her role in\u00a0\u201cAilment Without Medicine<\/em>\u201d<\/strong>, which was performed by Rubu’ Qarn Theater Troupe. Additionally, the play\u00a0\u201cIsolation\u201d by<\/em><\/strong> the Dibba Association for Culture and Arts Troupe received the Special Jury Award, while Hamad Al Dhanhani was honoured with the Best Playwright Award.<\/span><\/p>\n

The closing ceremony unfolded in a festive atmosphere, beginning with a piano performance by young musician Rashid Al Marzouqi, who captivated the audience with his musical pieces. The ceremony also featured a film showcasing highlights from the performances, capturing key scenes from the event.<\/span><\/p>\n

Additionally, the\u00a0<\/em>Personality of the Year, esteemed artist Razika Taresh, was celebrated with a tribute film highlighting her remarkable journey across radio, theatre, and drama, in recognition of her contributions to the development of the local artistic and theatrical movement.<\/span><\/p>\n

The jury of the 15th edition of the festival presented a report, delivered by artist Samira Ahmed, which included several key recommendations. Among the jury’s most significant findings was the need to prioritise the Arabic language, adhering to its rules and utilising a proofreader to ensure works are free of linguistic errors. The jury members emphasised the importance of proper articulation and highlighted the necessity of adequately preparing actors and their tools as essential components of theatrical production.<\/span><\/p>\n

Furthermore, the jury underlined the importance of carefully selecting directors who possess extensive experience and knowledge in the field. They recommended that participating teams adhere strictly to all regulations and laws of the festival, ensuring rigorous standards for performances. The jury also underscored the importance of nurturing young talent, including writers, directors, and actors, by providing them with opportunities to express their ideas and visions through relevant projects.<\/span><\/p>\n

The jury also urged the festival management to consider introducing more awards in future sessions, such as Best Supporting Actor, Best Supporting Actress, Best Set Design, Best Theatrical Costumes, and Best Theatrical Makeup, recognising their potential to motivate participants to excel across all specialised areas of theatre.<\/span><\/p>\n
