Sultan Bin Ali Al Owais Cultural Foundation Organizes Book Signing Event for “Ghurbat Al Madani” at Sharjah International Book Fair

The Sultan Bin Ali Al Owais Cultural Foundation has organized a book signing event for its recently released book, “Ghurbat Al Madani” (Al Madani’s Alienation), by Dr. Mariam Al Hashemi. The book signing event, which took place at the book signing corner at the Sharjah International Book Fair, was attended by a great number of intellectuals, authors, media personalities, readers, who obtained signed copies of the book.

The new book sheds light on the state of alienation witnessed by poet Ahmed Amin Madani (1931-1995), which was tackled by the author in the various chapters of the book including: “Literary Alienation”, “Spatial Alienation”, “Temporal Alienation”, “Social Alienation”, “Alienation from the Self”. Moreover, the author also studies the concept and theories of alienation, as well as the theme of alienation in Emirati literature. Furthermore, the book includes a chapter on Alienation in Al Madani’s poetry. The event is the second of its kind within the framework of the Notable Figures series, which was launched in March 2012. The book is part of the “Notable Figures from the UAE” book series; as initiative launched by Al Owais Cultural Foundation in the aim of documenting  the biographies of notable Emirati figures that have left an indelible mark on the cultural scene in the UAE.

Ahmed Amin Al Madani was born in Deira, Dubai and completed his high school and university education in Baghdad, Iraq. He later pursued his post-graduate studies at the University of Cambridge, from which he obtained a Ph.D. in Literature.

Al Madani was not merely a poet, he widely contributed to cultural life in the UAE. He authored a great number of studies and publications and gave many lectures at symposiums and cultural events. In addition to his poetry collections, he authored several publications such as “ Al Tarkeeb Al Ijtima’I Al Deeni” (The Social Religious Set-up”, “Al Shi’r Al Sha’bi fil Emarat” (Popular Poetry in the UAE), “Dirasa fil Adab Al Andalusi” (A Study of Andalusian Literature” and “Dirasa fil Falsafa” (A Study of Philosophy). He also wrote many articles and studies that were published in major Arab newspapers and magazines.
