The Sultan Bin Ali Al Owais Cultural Foundation will be hosting a major poetry festival under the title of “Al Owais’ First Festival of Poetry: A Tribute to Late Poet Sultan Al Owais”. The event, which will feature a constellation of Arab poets, will be hosted on Zoom online platform at 7pm on Wednesday and Thursday, December 16 and 17, 2020. Moreover, the poetry festival will also be broadcasted on the online platform of Al Owais Cultural Foundation on social media.
The poetry festival will see the participation of the following poets: Saleha Ghobash, Karim Ma’touq and Mohamed Nour (UAE); Ahmed Al Shahawy (Egypt); Youssef Abu Loz (Palestine); Qamar Sabry Al Jassim (Syria); Jassim Al Saheeh (KSA); Arif Al Sa’edi (Iraq); Mohammed Abdul Qader Sabeel (Sudan); Mohammed Baba Hamed (Mauritania) and Hamdan Dammaj (Yemen). The festival will be moderated and hosted by Ibrahim Al Hashemi (UAE) and Abdo Wazen (Lebanon).
The aim of the festival is the revival of poetry and its significant role in public life and the recognition of poets and the vital part they play in inspiring hope within the community. The poets taking part in the festival are considered some of the most well-known poets in the field, who have persisted in writing poetry despite any changes occurring in the Arab literary scene.
It is worth mentioning that the Sultan Bin Ali Al Owais Cultural Foundation has always been keen on hosting festivals, seminars, symposiums and discussions of high value, which adds to the great cultural repertoire achieved by the Foundation since its establishment in 1987 and until today. In addition, the Foundation also documents all its cultural activities and events in book form.
It is worth mentioning that the Sultan Bin Ali Al Owais Cultural Foundation had activated its online platforms during the COVID-19 pandemic and hosted numerous cultural activities, seminars, symposiums, art exhibitions and screenings of documentary films, which have made a great impact on cultural life.
