Dubai, United Arab Emirates – 8 January 2018. Gulf Photo Plus (GPP), Dubai’s premiere center for photography, is proud to announce the date and program for SONY PhotoFriday, one of the biggest photography days in Dubai’s creative calendar. SONY PhotoFriday will take place on the 9th of February as part of GPP Photo Week at Alserkal Avenue.
Organized annually by Gulf Photo Plus, SONY PhotoFriday is a highlight of Photo Week, where more than 3,000 photographers and photography enthusiasts meet and learn from world-renowned photographers across genres and areas of interest. The day, packed with all things photography, features 12 unique 90-minute sessions, technical and inspirational talks, and creative panels led by some of the most prominent regional and international names in the business, including: Tanya Habjouqa, Tasneem Alsultan, Toufic Araman, Brian Smith, Maggie Steber, Sara Lando, Zack Arias, Kevin Mullins, and RC Concepcion.
This year’s seminars are categorized by topics related to technique, inspiration, and creative practice. The sessions include:

Visitors will also be able to visit GPP’s six exhibitions throughout the avenue, including: Beyond Here is Nothing by Laura El-Tantawy at the GPP gallery; Red Zone by Jalal Sepehr in The Yard; Shift Your Focus, a community exhibition in Nadi Al Quoz; Black to the Future: Reimagining Now by Osborne Macharia in Warehouse 61; a FujiFilm Instax installation by Cheb Moha and Chndy in A4; and Souls Against the Concrete by Khalik Allah in Concrete, Alserkal Avenue’s iconic multidisciplinary space. The day will culminate with a film screening in The Yard, in collaboration with the independent cinema platform, Cinema Akil.
Every year, GPP Photo Week creates an accessible entry point into the world of photography for people of all walks of life. This year’s theme is Shift Your Focus, aimed at encouraging attendees to think about photography, and the rapidly changing world around us, in a new light and with a new lens. The event will provide attendees with a holistic experience, giving professionals, amateurs, and enthusiasts alike an opportunity to engage with photography while immersing themselves in Dubai’s burgeoning art scene.
